Long-tail keywords are great for SEO content. They're terrible for Find Leads searches. Here's why — and how to avoid wasting prospecting credits on queries that return nothing.
Long-Tail Keywords: A Warning
Find Leads uses search engines to discover business websites. The broader your search terms, the more results you'll get. Very specific, long-tail keywords — like "affordable emergency plumber open on Sunday in Brunswick" — may return zero results because search engines simply don't index that many pages for hyper-specific queries.
How to Structure Keywords for Maximum Results
- Use broad terms — "plumber" not "24-hour emergency plumber in Fitzroy with free quotes"
- Let the location filter do the work — set your location in the dropdown rather than baking it into the keyword
- Avoid service qualifiers — "dentist" works better than "affordable cosmetic dentist with parking"
- One or two words max — "cafe Melbourne" is fine; "best organic fair-trade cafe in Fitzroy open late" is not
What to Do If Your Niche Is Specific
If you genuinely only work with a narrow niche, try:
- Use the Industry strategy with broader terms, then filter results manually
- Use the Specific Issues strategy to find businesses with problems that are common in your niche
- Run a broad search, export the leads to CSV, and filter in a spreadsheet
